Why Winter is the Best Time to Visit Orange

While Orange is beautiful year-round, winter offers something truly special.

Cool mornings create ideal conditions for our vineyards, while crisp afternoons invite you to slow down with a glass of wine beside the fire. Across the region you’ll discover cellar doors, restaurants and local producers embracing the season with warming menus, seasonal produce and memorable hospitality.

Orange’s high altitude is what makes it one of Australia’s leading cool climate wine regions. The long growing season allows grapes to develop exceptional flavour while maintaining natural acidity, producing elegant wines with balance, freshness and complexity.

It’s this unique environment that has helped establish Orange as one of New South Wales’ most awarded wine regions.

Discover Ross Hill Wines

Ross Hill Wines is proudly Australia’s first certified carbon neutral winery, producing premium cool climate wines from two high-altitude vineyards in Orange.

Our Wallace Lane Vineyard sits at more than 1,000 metres above sea level, making it one of the highest commercial vineyards in Australia. These unique growing conditions allow us to craft expressive Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon that reflect the character of the Orange region.

Whether you’re joining us for Fire Festival or visiting another time of year, our Cellar Door offers a range of tasting experiences, from classic wine flights through to food and wine pairings that showcase the best of the region.
